In Jiangle in August, dawn breaks early.
At half-past five in the morning, mountain mist still lingers, and wildflowers beside the beehives are heavy with dew. Footsteps echo along the mountain trail — local beekeepers are heading uphill amid the dew. They must check all their beehives before the sun climbs high.
This is our third trip into the mountains this summer.
From spring through autumn, the Herbal Treasure team has been occupied with one task: following local beekeepers in Jiangle, Sanming, Fujian, and documenting the changing seasons of these mountains. We watch flowers bloom in spring, bees busily forage in summer, and taste fresh honey in autumn. We seek to understand one thing: where exactly does the genuine sweetness from the wilderness come from.
01 Dawn over a Mountain
Nestled in the remnant Wuyi Mountain range, Jiangle County boasts lofty, densely-forested peaks shrouded in frequent mist. Qitou Mountain has been tended by generations of local beekeepers.
There are no vast flower fields here. Blossoms thrive along stream valleys, in rock crevices, beneath the shade of old woodland: wild osmanthus, Chinese tallow tree, gallnut and more. One bloom follows another, lasting from spring well into autumn.
Carrying pollen from successive seasons on their wings, bees produce honey infused with flavours of the whole mountain. Beekeepers call it “hundred-flower honey”. It is sweetness not from a single flower, but the rich essence of mountain-wide blooming seasons.

02 One Season of Blossoms, One Spoon of Honey
Beekeepers understand better than anyone: good honey cannot be rushed.
Bees on Qitou Mountain yield honey only once a year. Spring and summer honey remains for the bee colonies to survive the cold — their food supply, an ancient local custom. Humans harvest only the final autumn nectar: fully-ripened honey, capped and settled by bees.
We accompanied beekeepers, observing hives, breathing in floral aromas, sampling and collecting honey. We witnessed how blossoms of an entire season slowly transform into amber-gold honey. Its sweetness is soft, never cloying, imbued with fresh herbal notes. Floral and fruity on the palate, it finishes with the cool freshness of mountain wilderness.

It manages the full industrial chain: cultivation, research & development, and extraction of ganoderma (reishi) and other fungi. This Mid-Autumn Festival, it combines hundred-flower honey from Qitou Mountain with decades-long R&D expertise. New creations include honey-infused ganoderma soft candies, preserved plums steeped in ganoderma-honey, and ganoderma-honey matcha treats.

04 Traditional Pastry from a Time-Honoured Shop
No gift box would be complete without pastries.
We sourced them from a time-honoured local artisan pastry shop in Jiangle. Using naturally-fermented old style dough and hand-filled fillings, pastries baked in traditional ovens release simple aromas of wheat and sesame. For locals of Jiangle, this is the authentic flavour of Mid-Autumn.

05 From Mountain Peak to the Reunion Dinner Table
