In August, dawn comes early in Jiangle.
At 5:30 in the morning, the mountain mist still hangs in the air, and the wildflowers beside the beehives are already beaded with dew. Footsteps sound on the mountain path — the local beekeepers are heading up through the dew. They need to check every hive before the sun climbs too high.
This is the third time this summer we have gone into the mountains.
From spring to autumn, the Herbal Treasure team has been doing one thing: following the beekeepers of Jiangle, Sanming, Fujian, and recording the four seasons of a mountain. In spring we watch the flowers bloom, in summer we watch the bees at work, in autumn we taste the new honey. We wanted to find out one thing — where a spoonful of sweetness that truly comes from the wild actually comes from.
01 · A Mountain Morning
Jiangle County lies tucked in the trailing ranges of the Wuyi Mountains — high peaks, dense forests, heavy mist. Qitou Mountain is the mountain that generations of local beekeepers have kept.
There are no vast flower fields here. Flowers bloom along the stream valleys, in the cracks of rocks, in the shade of the old woods: wild osmanthus, mountain tallow, Chinese gallnut… one crop after another, from spring to autumn.
The bees’ wings carry pollen from different seasons, and the honey they make carries the taste of the whole mountain. The beekeepers call it “hundred-flower honey” — not the sweetness of a single flower, but the richness of a whole season of blossoms.
02 · One Season of Flowers, One Spoonful of Honey
Beekeepers know better than anyone that “you cannot rush it.”
The bees of Qitou Mountain give up their honey only once a year. The honey of spring and summer is left for the colony to survive the winter — it is their food, and an old rule passed down from the mountain. What people take is the last nectar of autumn: the mature honey the bees have made, capped, and settled.
We followed the beekeepers as they watched the bees, breathed in the fragrance, tasted and harvested the honey — watching them slowly turn a season of blossoms into honey the color of amber. That sweetness is not sharp, not cloying; it carries the clear breath of grass and trees. On the tongue it is flowers and fruit; in the aftertaste, the coolness of the wild.
03 · When the Sweetness of the Wild Meets Twenty Years of Reishi
The honey comes from the mountain, but the story of “Moonlit Honey Charm” is about more than honey.
Herbal Treasure is a company that has focused on medicinal mushrooms for more than twenty years — from growing and developing reishi and other mushrooms to extraction, the entire industry chain is in its own hands. This Mid-Autumn Festival, they have brought together the hundred-flower honey of Qitou Mountain and years of R&D experience: honey-infused reishi soft candy, reishi-enriched preserved plums, reishi honey matcha…
The clear sweetness of the wild meets the gentle warmth of plants. Sweet and mellow, side by side — exactly the “light nourishment” that Eastern people understand: not strong, not intense, but a slow, steady stream.
04 · A Gift Cake from an Old Shop
One more thing belongs in the gift box — the cake.
We found a handmade gift-cake shop in Jiangle where the owner has spent a lifetime at the craft. Raised with old dough, wrapped by hand, baked in the fire, the cakes carry the plainest fragrance of wheat and sesame. For the people of Jiangle, the taste of Mid-Autumn is the taste of this cake.
The clear sweetness of the forest and the craft of the years meet gently inside a single gift box.
05 · From the Mountain to the Reunion Table
On Mid-Autumn night, this box of “Moonlit Honey Charm” will reach dining tables in different cities. Someone will open it in the moonlight, taste the clear sweetness of the honey first, then bite into the old shop’s gift cake, and finally call family far away.
From Qitou Mountain to the reunion table, this box of gifts traveled an entire summer.
But we think it was worth it.
The mountain holds a hundred flowers; the honey keeps the four seasons.
The cake keeps an old flavor; the moon lights the reunion.
May this sweet gift from Jiangle keep you company as you share the bright moon, and savor a pure, clear sweetness.
